Hi everyone!! well we have had quite a couple of days!!! as you know some of us were selected to be on new Magnets KPR is selling!!! Mommy has posted picture!!! BUT..that is not the HALF of it!!! Last night...Mug n Buns got stung by a bee on his foot...it was TERRIBLE!!!! he was perfectly fine, running around like a PUG DOG should...ran up to Mommy goofing around with his Pug Butt in the Air Pose...and suddenly as he spun around to run to Daddy...BAM...his right rear foot drew up and that was all she wrote!!! Daddy picked him up, Mommy looked him over and could not find anything...at first!! so into the house we all went...Mugs for Benadryl Wrapped in Cheese and the rest of us to Supervise....yeah...that's it...we went to Supervise...NOT to get any cheese ourselves of course!! Because you know, it was ALL about Mugs at this point...errrrrr uuuuugggh...well, anyway!!! Mommy went ahead and called the Vet and thankfully, Dr V said NO you don't have to bring him in unless he breaks out in hives, starts to swell or has trouble breathing!!!! Dr V said Mommy is pretty good egg to go ahead and start the Benadryl!!! We know Mommy always has our backs!!!!! Mugs was pretty restless for about an hour, but finally settled down and went to sleep with Daddy in the chair. Daddy told us all this morning...ok...really he told Mommy and we were all evesdropping!! Shhh don't tell on us!!! ....anyway, Daddy told Mommy after Buns slept about 2 hrs, he hopped down off the chair and trotted back to the bedroom....looking back as if to say "ok, we are WAY past bedtime here...let's get to it!!!!" so Daddy turned off the lights and tv, and he and Mugs got into bed with the rest of us!!! This morning, Buns was a bit sluggish but fine...he is still a little timid on the one foot in terms of bearing full weight...but wow...soooooooo much better then last night!!!!! Never a Dull Moment with the PUG CIRCUS!!!!

'Nelope and 'Nunia's big adventure
well, it is done...completed that is. P and P have been delivered safely into the loving arms of their New Mommy!
Never before have we had a New Mom come with such a great show of support!! Not only did Mom come, Grandma, Grandpa and a friend too!!! wow....that's a lot of love for two little Pug Princesses!!
Now, before I even get started...would you CHECK OUT the new wardrobe for the girls!!!????? This showing does not even include the cool embroidered harnesses with matching ID tags!!!

Never before have we had a New Mom come with such a great show of support!! Not only did Mom come, Grandma, Grandpa and a friend too!!! wow....that's a lot of love for two little Pug Princesses!!
The trip went well, we started out in our van...met Aunt Amy at Southport...where the suggestion was made that perhaps Aunt Amy should do the driving to the meeting spot because well, frankly because I would be a basket case and potential road hazard driving home!!! The girls LOVED the Fido Rido car seat as you can see!! so very comfy!!!!!
Could they seriously BE ANY CUTER!!!!????? Not a care in the world, with no concept of the changes that lie ahead for them!!!!

Traveling in our van initally as previously stated, they snuggled on their bed ...and yes, that went with them to their new home. They have loved this bed since the first night in our home!!!
Snuggled together ..as always, they were happy to ride in the car. When we reached the meeting point, it was only a matter of a few minutes before their New Mommy arrived. She jumped out of her car....and came running toward the girls...who were running toward her! totally happy to see anyone that seemed to love them....they willingly went right up to her! Tangling their leashes we all laughed, got them untangled, and Petunia promptly decided to poop!!! GOOD GIRL we all said laughing!!!! Grandpa was taking pictures as was I, Aunt Amy had Petunia...and Geni Jo...new Mommy had Penelope!!!
Grandma took turns loving on each of them. They told us how Geni Jo's Co-workers had surprised her with a huge basket of toys and treats to welcome her little girls!! How cool is that??? Once we went over the Paperwork, contracts were signed, all instructions regarding foods, meds etc were explained...I felt my stomach tighten because I knew...here it was...the actual moment I had to let go. My voice breaking, I said...It's Time...I have to leave...Amy promptly agreed because well...number 1. she knows me well, and number 2. she has been thru this too. Everyone started to move about...Geni Jo reassured me, as did her Mom of what a great life they would give the girls...I reminded them...."I have no doubts letting them go to you...it is just very hard to say goodbye!"...Geni Jo handed me a card, and beautiful pot of Impatiens ...she thanked me for taking such good care of her girls...
As I kissed the girls one last time...I told them I loved them ,and to make me proud...to be the good girls for their New Mommy that they were for me! I headed to the car and as I got in...made the mistake of looking back...Petunia was looking at me..."where are you going??" all over that little face....I looked the other way...started bawling like a baby...Amy comforting me...saying don't look back...don't look back...and I did not. I even held my hands to the side of my face to resist temptation of looking at them one last time.....I could not let myself...I just couldn't. As we drove away, with me crying....Amy commented on how nobody had ever shown up with a Car Seat, Wardrobe and so much family/friend support before to pick up their newly Adopted Pug...she reminded me that this home, these people, clearly...CLEARLY ...GET what we do and why we do it and we both agreed it will be tough to top this drop off!!! I am delighted that someone like Geni Jo will be the Mommy to my little ladybugs! They deserve a life of fun and love and without a doubt that is what they will have now. God Bless you Geni Jo...You thanked me...I should be Thanking YOU!!!!!!

Hi Everyone...Annie here, Mama to The Pug Circus. This is going to serve as the first Foster Friday Blog.
It is going to be a very emotional
day tomorrow so I am writing this
tonight and am hopeful I can do so
without crying!!! Fostering is
such an amazing thing to do.
When Penelope and Petunia first came to us on Feb 28, they were so very ill, in fact Petunia
was completely listless and apathetic. We were worried about both of them on all levels...their physical and emotional well being were so compromised.

Coming out of a Hoarding Home with 174 other animals, they did not understand the love and affection a Human could show them. Consumed with Demodex, a topical yeast infection , and a Severe Upper Respiratory Infection, they could hardly interact with each other or with us.

Within just a few short weeks an amazing thing started to happen....kisses and cuddling became part of every day...and they loved this!!! However, I thought on many occasions I needed to be an Octopus to have a lot of arms to reach ALOT of PUGS all at one time!!! With P and P, you have to play with, love on or hold them both at the same time!! Otherwise the one left on the floor will let you know in NO uncertain terms how unhappy she is that her Sister is getting the attention!!! Even at the Vet it would be hilarious...one up on the exam table...the other on the floor barking away as if she was saying" She is MY Sister...PUT HER BACK DOWN HERE WITH ME!!!!!". Learning how to play with toys and other Pugs became a huge part of each day for the girls. They really enjoy the company of other Pugs...they like to chase and be chased!!!! They adore PORK CHOMPS!!! and no matter how many are on the floor...they are more then willing to request, politely of course!!!...that you open a new pack for them. They are not particular about the flavor...they just love their Chomps as we call them!!

Obviously..the first order of business was to get to the Dr. They were scraped to determine the extent of Demodex...typically to diagnose this illness, they Vet needs to see 5 Demodex Mites per field thru a microscope...they stopped counting at 8!!! Poor Petunia was very nearly hairless and Penelope had what I referred to as a Pug Mowhawk! she had a wide strip of fur down her back ..and that was all!! Over the first few days with meds in them, their personalities began to emerge, and one thing was very certain. These two little girls could NOT be separated!!! KPR has a policy of keeping Bonded Pairs together...thank GOODNESS!! These two are so in sync with each other that when they run , if you see them from a side view...it looks like ONE pug running!!! their leg spans match up perfectly!!!!!

It was pretty astounding to watch not only there emotional trust build with us, but the change in their appearance as well. Once the Demodex was starting to resolve, overnight bursts of hair would show up all over them! Such pretty girls already...they just turned from the proverbial ducklings into swans!!! Unfortunately it was not to last for 'Tunia...she has recently had a flare up of the Demodex. Truly, this is not a surprise considering she had been more profoundly affected initially. And in truth, once a dog has suffered a bout of Demodex, the odds of it recurring are strong. On a newer treatment protocol, 'Tunia will certainly have a less difficult time of battling the Demodex this time!
And now, the hard part. The Farewell. This is tough to write, and yet such a good thing too. For over 4 mos now, we have been so lucky to be a part of helping "Tunia and "Nelope evolve from frightened, sick little Pugglets to the two vivacious and happy go lucky little girls they are today!

At PugPalooza, a lovely young lady fell in love with the girls and as of tomorrow....Fri July 3rd, they will be in her home, starting their new life. I have no doubt they will live like the Princesses they are...and will be loved, cared for, and treated incredibly well. Their New Mom has emailed me several times over the last few weeks for tips, schedules, type of food, favorite treats etc etc etc. She wants to make their transfer to a new home as seamless as possible. That alone tells me she will provide quality care and love!!! She has purchased harnesses for them, with their names embroidered on them to start their new wardrobe!!! How cool is that??!!! Only twice before have I allowed myself to get sooooooo attached to a Foster (s)...those of you who know me know this was Princess Sophia Maria the Princess Pug, and Peyton .....those are other Friday Foster Stories for other Fridays!!! Everyone always tells me they can't foster..they would get too attached. I won't lie, you do...But I can ALSO tell you...there is an amazing feeling inside when you hand over the Pug(s) to their new Family. And when you get updates....you feel like you had a small part in making that Pug or Pugs life better. You made a difference...so give me the Bittersweet...give me the tears as I drive away...and send me my next Foster. Because no matter what, I would not do a thing differently. Not one single thing. So Farewell my Beauties!!! this Mommy and Daddy love you very much and will look forward to seeing emails from your New Mommy with how well you are doing...and we will count down the months between events when we get to see those beautiful, happy little faces again. Don't forget us....because we will NEVER forget you!!! We love you 'Tunia and 'Nelope and we will miss you!

A calm and peaceful Wednesday...hmm what is wrong with that picture???!!!!
Mom was very happy that we managed to sleep straight thru till 6am today!! Hope she does not expect that every day!!!
Now, it has been suggested that we do a little blurb called Foster Fridays! Mom REALLY Likes this idea! she will do just about anything to help promote the Pugs of KPR!!!!! It is always funny to us when Mommy brings home a Foster Pug. Whenshe first joined KPR as a
Volunteer...the one thing everyone said to her was NO FOSTERING!!! they were so afraid she would not let a Foster go to a new home!!! HA HA!! Her very first Board Meeting, yep..you got it! she brought home a Foster Pug!!!! and that was all she wrote!! since then, there have been alot of Foster Pugs thru this house! There are sometimes it is really hard, but she always let's go..ok, not ALWAYS!! Kirby and Colby were fosters..and well, there was NO way she or Daddy could let them go!!! and before them, Reggie...we called him RP the PR Pug. It was very sad when he died only 8 mos after coming to live with us. Mommy had a very, very hard time with it and was so depressed. But she got thru it the only way she knew how, and brought in Mugsy...aka Mug n Buns. Interestingly enough, even though she loved him right away, she wasn't sure if he was the "RIGHT" Pug ...he doesn't kiss!!! OH, he will lick your hand, leg, neck, back, foot etc...just no kisses on the face!! Mommy loves Pug Kisses so it was hard for her when he snorted instead of kissing!!! But one day, about 2 weeks into having Buns (as we call him) here in the house...he was sitting next to Mommy..she looked over at him and BLLOOOOPP!!! It happened!!! a nice kiss on the face!!!! Mommy started crying and knew Buns had to be a permanent part of our family!!! Of course, he STILL doesn't kiss on the face hardly ever!!! but that is ok!!! We will take a snort from Buns anyday!!!!!

KPR NEEDS FOSTER HOMES
The picture to the right is a BEFORE shot
The picture up top...AFTER...all they needed was some
good meds, and TLC!!!
ok, so this is Mom..aka Annie!!! I wanted to take a moment to post about Fostering. Currently, Kentuckiana Pug Rescue is just like every other rescue out there. We are struggling to keep up with the overwhelming surrenders on a weekly basis. Recently, we had to turn to a fellow rescue to take 7 Pugs as our Foster Homes are Full!! If you know of a Puglover...or if you are one yourself, please consider filling out a Foster Application on our website. We are working in the states of IN and KY, so you must be a resident in one or the other. The process is simple, you fill out the application, we send a volunteer to do a home visit and then you are contacted by the Foster Coordinator in your state. If approved, KPR will cover the cost of all medical expenses with the proviso that you utilize a KPR approved Vet in your area. All we ask of our Foster Homes is to provide: Love, Compassion, and trips to the Vet. How much better does it get???!!!
Currently, due to such a shortage of Foster Homes, KPR has been unable to accept any surrenders for a few weeks now. We really want to see the "doors open" again to Pugs in need very soon.
Fostering is rewarding. We took in Penelope and Petunia on Feb 28, 2009. They were in a home that had over 174 animals in it..deplorable conditions. Both babies (6 mos old at the time) were "ate up" with Demodex, had an upper respiratory infection, and a topical yeast infection. They were on several medications and are battling yet another mild outbreak of the demodex . They are by far, 2 of the happiest little Pugglets we have ever seen. NOTHING has kept them down once they started feeling better! Bonded like no other pair I have seen...and well, we have Kirby and Colby and they are pretty bonded....these two are joined at the hip! Hilarious to watch, they love their wading pool and enjoy running and barking at NOTHING!!! geeee...sounds like a Pug to me!!! They will be going to their Forever Home in a few days. While bittersweet..because we love them so, it will be a rewarding moment to see their new Mama hold them and drive them off to a wonderful future full of all the love and attention they could ever imagine. So think about giving Fostering a chance...it is such a selfless thing to do for such defenseless little animals!! the smile on the new family's face will be all the reward you could ever hope for!!!!
Toilet Paper...yes, I said Toilet Paper
Frankly I am not sure why Mom even buys us toys. We are basically little Billy Goats that would far prefer to eat paper products then chew on toys. Ok, some days we are like that!!! My favorite thing to do in the whole wide world...besides lick everyone's ears to the point of annoying the crap not only out of the other Pugs but my parents too...is to eat Toilet Paper. I have overheard Mom say on more then one occasion that she and Daddy should pick ONE brand of TP and buy ALOT of stock in it!!!! I don't know why she says that!! I guess it COULD have a little something to do with my bad habit. OH, by the way , it's me...you know...Millie Pooh Bean!!! I love to sneak down the Hallway in Pug Ninja Mode...round the corner...cocking my head to each side to be certain I have not been detected...grab the end of the TP and take off...hell bent for leather just as fast as I can down the hall, into the living room, and up on the couch!!! The TP is wafting and billowing behind me all the way. It is quite pretty actually. .... I think so anyway!! then I proceed to eat as much as I can before Mom or Dad jumps up to take it away from me!!!! I know it is such a waste of TP ..but I sure have fun doing it!!!
